RMA Chairman And President Eric L. Johnson Receives 2024 RNC's Trailblazer Award

DALLAS, TX — Last night, RMA Chairman and President Eric L. Johnson was recognized as the recipient of the 2024 RNC Trailblazer Award in appreciation for his contributions to the Republican Party.

The annual award honors a Black Republican who has worked to advance conservative legislation, helped elect Republicans, or committed themselves to growing the Republican Party. Previous recipients include United States Senator Tim Scott, Dr. Ben Carson, and Virginia Lt. Governor Winsome Sears.

“Now more than ever our nation has arrived at a time for choosing. The overwhelming majority of all Americans who want safe communities, an economy that makes life easier not harder for working men and women, and common-sense solutions to problems like crime, homelessness, and illegal immigration are Republicans at heart they may just not have realized it yet,” said RMA Chairman and President Eric L. Johnson. “I hope my story offers hope to those who are considering leaving the Democrat Party like I did.”

Since joining the Republican Party in September, Mayor Johnson has stressed that American cities need more Republican mayors. With 80 percent of Americans living in urban areas, only a quarter of the 100 largest cities are represented by a Republican mayor. Mayor Johnson took initiative and founded the Republican Mayors Association to help change that.

The RMA is committed growing the Republican Party by sharing best practices, mentoring and supporting current and future Republican mayors, and upholding conservative principles at the municipal level.
